Verizon DSL Internet Service

In today's fast-moving world, if you tell someone that you do not have high-speed Internet service at home, there's an excellent chance that they will look at you as if you live in the Stone Age or a cave. DSL and cable Internet access at home is more affordable today than it has ever been, and you have just run out of excuses to not have this service at your home. Yes, there is a chance that where your home is located is just too far off the beaten path to be able to get either of these services, but isn't it worth checking to find out? If you simply rely on local advertising or your phone company for information, you are limiting your possible options severely.

The secret of successful comparison shopping for just about any product or service is having a sufficient range of competing products and services to compare. You cannot do a real comparison if you are only looking at ONE product or service. When you are shopping for a car, you check out several car dealerships, or if you are shopping for a new desktop computer, you compare features and price of various different brands, right? The same financial logic should be applied when you are shopping for DSL or cable Internet access. That is where we help because after you enter your address, city, state, zip, and phone number, a list will be shown of exactly which vendors can provide what kind of service at what price for your location, including any specials or promotions that might be offered at this time. And when you find what you like, you can place your order online, securely, 24 x 7. The bottom line is that is just doesn't get any easier than this!

If you are concerned about online security, we need to assure you that your information is safe here. Your address and phone number is not stored on our computers for any longer than it takes for our computers to communicate with the different carrier's computers in order to find out what can be offered for your home's location. You won't get telemarketing calls, you won't get spam emails, and you won't get your postal mailbox filled with junk mail. At least you won't get that as a result of entering your information at our site! It is important to note this aspect since entering a bogus address or made-up phone number is NOT going to allow the system to display correct results for your home's location.

Our Expert Opinion on Verizon DSL Internet Service, Other Options

The first thing you need to realize is that there is NOT ONE COMPANY that makes all customers happy all the time. But keep in mind that this is the way things are with almost anything -- you will not find 100% happy campers with every Chevy on the market, with every Dell on the market, with every Maytag on the market, etc. Our recommendations below are based on a combination of personal experience and user reviews. It is not designed to be an official guide; rather, just our experience personally as well as getting comments and critiques from a variety of customers across the nation.

While residential Verizon DSL is certainly a viable option in many areas and the price may be extremely attractive, the one area where Verizon has never shined brightly is customer service. Reports indicate that Verizon is lax on security measures, and tend to do an "all or nothing" with spam; i.e., either ALL the spam comes in or they throw away ALL things that might be considered spam, which unfortunately includes a lot of VALID email to you. But if you have a somewhat technical nature, are willing to do much of your own configurations, and do not need Verizon customer service, the Verizon DSL Internet Service may be just the ticket for you.

LaunchNet offers nationwide DSL service at speeds that are higher than most of their competitors -- speeds from 6.0 MB down and 768K up. Note that "up" speed, as most of the other DSL and cable providers limit you to 256K or maybe 384K. In many areas, LaunchNet can also offer "naked DSL", which means that you don't need to have a telephone line at your house! Standard features include 10 email addresses, spam and virus filtering, and a 30 day money back guarantee.

Comcast is highly rated for both service and quality. Like almost all carriers, the speed they advertise is likely not the speed you will actually see, but many users report that spending time on the phone with them resolves a lot of problems, as well as helping the customer pinpoint problems with their network connection on their computer setup. You can access your Comcast email from any Internet-connected computer anywhere. For a cable Internet connection (not requiring a phone line in your home), Comcast is well worth your consideration.

SBC/Yahoo high-speed DSL service provides solid quality and service to the customer, with high levels of overall reliability being reported. Many of the SBC/Yahoo techs frequent some of the online forums and provide people with trouble-shooting advice and other tips. SBC/Yahoo has a policy of allowing customers to re-negotiate their contract at any time, as long as they sign up for at least another year, so this can protect you if they run a special at a lower price than what you bought it for. Most customers agree that you will ever only see about 80% of their advertised top-end speeds due to network protocols used by SBC, but many of those same customers report that it is still very good. Definitely worth a look.

Earthlink has been a dial-up ISP for years, and with your Earthlink high-speed service, they also give you about 20 hours of dial-up access at no additional charge, which you can use when you are away from home. Earthlink techs, while sometimes it may take awhile to reach them, are very knowledgeable and very thorough, walking you through various trouble-shooting steps by the hand. In certain areas, Earthlink has teamed with Brighthouse to provide their service, and the Brighthouse techs are not nearly as good as Earthlink. Still, if you get Earthlink service in a Brighthouse area, you can always get to Earthlink support. Speeds are good and uptime is also as good as any other provider. They frequently run specials for a very low cost for the first few months, converting to a reasonable cost later. Should be considered.
