Great DSL and Cable Internet Options for Connecticut Residents

Not from Connecticut? Find the best DSL and Cable Internet options for your state here

It goes without saying that having fast and reliable Internet access at home is important in today's world. However, some locations cannot get DSL or cable Internet service. For cable, it is simply because the carrier or vendors are not currently servicing the area, and who knows when or even IF they plan to. For DSL, it may be a distance limitation, where the farther away your home is from the signal distribution point, the less likely that you can get a reliable signal, which means slower speeds if you can get service at all. You don't want to go with or stay with a dial-up connection unless that is really your ONLY option, since today's Internet and web pages simply do not lend themselves to the very slow (by comparison) speeds of DSL or cable. As far as a satellite Internet connection, let's just say that I have yet to meet even ONE satellite user who is happy with this option.

When you are looking for a new car, do you only shop at ONE car dealership? If you are shopping for a new computer, do you only consider ONE brand? Of course not, and for the same reasons, you need to shop amongst DSL and cable providers to find the one that offers the best value at the best price for your location. The problem is that you probably don't even know what all your options are for DSL or cable Internet access for your home. That's where we come in -- we represent more than a dozen of the nation's top residential DSL and cable Internet carriers. At our site, after you enter your information like address and phone number, you are presented with a list of WHO can offer WHAT for your location at what PRICE. You can get details of each offering, see what promotions and specials each carrier might be having, and place your order online, 24 x 7. It just doesn't get easier than that!

If you are concerned about online security, we need to assure you that your information is safe here. Your address and phone number is not stored on our computers for any longer than it takes for our computers to communicate with the different carrier's computers in order to find out what can be offered for your home's location. You won't get telemarketing calls, you won't get spam emails, and you won't get your postal mailbox filled with junk mail. At least you won't get that as a result of entering your information at our site! It is important to note this aspect since entering a bogus address or made-up phone number is NOT going to allow the system to display correct results for your home's location.

Our Expert Opinion on Top DSL/Cable Providers for Connecticut

The first thing you need to realize is that there is NOT ONE COMPANY that makes all customers happy all the time. But keep in mind that this is the way things are with almost anything -- you will not find 100% happy campers with every Chevy on the market, with every Dell on the market, with every Maytag on the market, etc. Our recommendations below are based on a combination of personal experience and user reviews. It is not designed to be an official guide; rather, just our experience personally as well as getting comments and critiques from a variety of customers across the nation.

LaunchNet offers residential and business DSL nationwide, and they offer it at speeds that blow many of the others away. Depending on location, speeds offered are up to 6 MB down and 768K up. Note that most others offer only 384K on the "up" side, and sometimes even less. LaunchNet also offers "naked DSL" in some areas, meaning that you do not need to have a telephone line installed in order to get it! Standard packages include 10 email address, virus and spam filtering, and an unprecedented 30 day money back guarantee.

Both service and quality are not strangers to Comcast cable Internet. Customers report that Comcast will try to make something right if there is a problem, and will frequently go above and beyond the call of duty to do so. Customer service will help a user with problems, even if the problem is not a Comcast issue. You can get to your Comcast email from any computer in the world that has a high-speed Internet connection. Since Comcast is high-speed cable, you are not required to have a phone line in your house. Better deals are frequently available if you also subscribe to their cable TV service. Definitely worth considering.

If you need solid quality and solid service from an industry leader, you don't need to look further than SBC/Yahoo DSL service. Customer service gets generally high marks, and many of the techs visit online forums occcasionally where they provide tips and advice to people. One extremely nice thing is that SBC/Yahoo's policy allows the customer to re-negotiate their contract at any time, as long as they are willing to sign another one year contract. This policy protects you if they decide to run a special promotion at a rate lower than what you signed up at. Like any of the providers of residential high-speed, most users agree that you will only ever see about 80% of the advertised speed, but it is still quite good. This should definitely be on your "check it out" list.

With your Earthlink cable service, you are also given about 20 hours worth of dial-up connection time at no additional charge, which can be used to access Earthlink if you are away from home with your laptop. Customer service, although it takes longer to reach them than others, is top-notch, and the techs are very knowledgeable and really take accountability to ensure problems are resolved to your satisfaction. You can frequently get better pricing if you also get (or already have) the cable TV service. In many areas, this is provided via Brighthouse. Speeds are reported to be very good and consistent up-time is also reported. Earthlink runs occasional specials and promotions for a very inexpensive rate for the first 3 or 6 months, which then converts to a higher but still competitive price. Should be on your consideration list.
